about us
sorting premise: headmasters is a hogwarts community in which we take on the role of the sorting hat and place your characters into one of the four following houses; gryffindor, hufflepuff, ravenclaw or slytherin. you will fill the survey out located here and put it in your screened post. you may not request a house for your character to be put in and you may not ask for us to change it after you've been sorted. we promise to do this as fairly as possible and there are certain things in the survey we'll be looking for to sort your characters and while some traits may be obvious as to why your character would be put in a certain house, some underlying information may have us put them elsewhere. please do not apply with expectations as we can't promise your character will be sorted where you're hoping. please give us insight into your character with your answers. if the answers to your questions are a little more bare and we can't get a feel, we won't reject you but we will ask that you fatten up your survey a bit.

the current date: students start arriving on september first. however, headmasters started in february. therefore all dates are off by 6 months. we will post a calendar monthly as a guide for you to keep track of the days. we'll run into holidays like halloween and christmas while we're in june and july. if you have any questions about this format or why, feel free to ask in the contact post.

canon characters, technology & canon history: you cannot play a canon character but there were two wars, canon characters did and do exist and we ask that you keep spells, locations and everything else as close to known canon as you can. we are a little lenient however and for the sake of having fun, we won't ask you to be too anal about it. please do not post youtube videos, gifs or information on other muggle related devices, etc. keep the mindset that unless your character is a muggleborn, they shouldn't have phones and instagrams and anything muggle related. muggleborns obviously can talk about these things but try to avoid saturating your character's life with it.

what pbs can you use: as a hogwarts community, we realize that somewhat limits the pbs you can use to pass as an 18 or younger character. we will be pretty lenient on pbs. no, that doesn't mean we'll allow someone to use jared leto or rachel mcadams, but if they look young enough and are under 30 years old, we will allow them. the mods will be using their judgement on pbs, so please keep in mind we may ask you to change if we feel your pb looks to old to be a 6th/7th year hogwarts student. that said, our leniency will apply to pbs around the 25-28 range. if you're not sure if a pb would be allowed you can always ask and we'll tell you before you commit to applying. if you have different opinions on who someone is using as a pb, that's okay but please remember it's up to the mods. also, please keep in mind that this is role playing and to keep an open mind. our goal is to have fun and to allow others to do the same.

how do the character journals work? character journals are a creation made by flourish and blotts & gambol and japes. customs are known as parchments charmed to specific people and their eyes only. when you're typing, your character is writing. when they're writing in a custom, they're writing on someone's privately charmed parchment. when you hand over a custom, pleaes link them. remember, urls don't exist!

joining
journals should be in character. by now we feel you should know what this means, but just in case we'll go over it for you. usernames should be made up of your character's first, middle or last name. please do not use excess letters in your usernames, underscores or numbers. on that note, we understand that not everyone can have the username 'john' or 'sara' but also keep in mind that on ij there are a lot of last name uns that are open too and that in the wizarding world it's more acceptable to use weirder first names and last names so hopefully that'll help your hunt for a username.

examples: we should see samples of your writing. narratives are big here for updates and fun, so if we could see examples of those that will definitely help if we're unsure. scene examles are important as well. we're looking for detailed and creative writers and would like to see 2 to 4 scene examples with more than one or two replies if possible. quantity doesn't always equal quality but still, show us your best! most rejections will be based on examples.

abilities & handwriting fonts
abilities: we do allow harry potter related abilities here. parseltongues, metamorphs, half-vamps, werewolves, etc. however, these things will be limited and capped. caps will go up if and when the community grows. please keep in mind that some of these will not be available until the community is established.

handwriting fonts: since characters are writing to one another on parchments and not computers, handwriting fonts are important to this community. we suspect anyone that's joined any of the previous hp comms in the past are familiar with how these work. you may claim up to 2 handwriting fonts for your character if need be. once we starting allowing npcs for character's family members, you may claim for them as well if you intend to use their handwriting on updates, etc. please see the resources page for places you can find free downloadable fonts.

activity & removals
communities cannot live without active members. we expect you to be active on the fp beyond just when you're expected to update. commenting intros, setting up and participating in activities are all that's going to help us live. the mod will be doing a lot to push the community along but we cannot do it alone. you will be expected to update twice a month. one update must be your typical narrative (hover or in depth), photoshop update, a playlist with some detail behind the songs given, etc. your second update should be interactive. whether it's a random ffa, question, activity or what have you, you should be interacting with fellow members.
